Running for a Cause

When I started running three years ago, there were two motivating forces. Like many moms, I wanted to get back in shape and drop the last bit of baby weight and be a good example of exercise and healthy living for my kids. I could have done that by taking classes at the gym, cycling, Cross Fit or some other active endeavor.

I chose to run to support my son's fight with Cystic Fibrosis (CF)*.

I wasn't sure I would like it or stick with it - but I was going to give it a try and thought of him and others with CF each time my lungs got tired and I wanted to stop.

Once I was able to run a few miles without injury, I focused on running to raise awareness and money for Cystic Fibrosis Charities.

I fund raise for the Boomer Esiason Foundation as a member of Team Boomer. This year I am trying to raise $1310.00 for Team Boomer while training for the Twin Lights Half Marathon on May 9. May also happens to be Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month and my son's birthday. You can click here to view my First Giving page.

I log my running miles for OutRun 38. This group is inspired by Liz, a woman with CF running to surpass the current CF life expectancy of 38. Anyone can log miles for OutRun 38 and they have a very active Facebook page.

Rock CF is a group led by Emily, a woman in her 30s with CF. Rock CF runs several programs that support children and adults with CF and organizes a half marathon and other sporting events in the Detroit area as well as a virtual 5K at Thanksgiving. You may have seen Emily's awesome They Keep You Alive T-shirt floating around social media. You can purchase your own and support this great foundation. I get so many comments every time I wear mine - and my kids love wearing their "sneaker" t-shirts.
